What started as a conversation about fashion designers refusing to dress plus-size celebrities turned into an unexpected heart-to-heart between the two actresses.
Sometimes, all it takes to clear up years of perceived beef is a little conversation, and apparently, an invitation to Pilates.
During a recent appearance on the “Tea Time w/ Raven and Miranda” podcast, Gabourey Sidibe and Raven-Symoné found themselves hashing out years of perceived tension after Sidibe revealed that she had long believed Raven didn’t like her.
The conversation began during the podcast’s “Hex or Hug” segment, when the trio discussed fashion designers who refuse to dress plus-size celebrities.
Raven admitted she was jealous of Sidibe, explaining that when she was growing up in the industry, designers weren’t exactly lining up to dress her.
“I remember when you came on the scene and you were embraced,” Raven told Sidibe, acknowledging how differently the industry had treated them. Raven went on to congratulate Sidibe for breaking down doors, but also admitted that seeing Sidibe receive that kind of embrace made her jealous.
That admission opened the door for a conversation Sidibe apparently had been waiting to have.
“I didn’t think you liked me,” Sidibe told Raven.
Raven naturally wanted to know why, and Sidibe was ready with an explanation.
“Because you treated me like you didn’t like me,” Sidibe responded.
The “Precious” actress recalled an encounter at a Chicago restaurant where she felt Raven was dismissive.
Sidibe said, laughing through the uncomfortable memory. “I felt like you were put off by me.”
Sidibe also claimed she’d heard that Raven had asked people not to be friends with her, prompting an incredulous response from the former Disney star.
“Who?” Raven asked, before pushing back on the suggestion that she disliked Sidibe. “No, I didn’t know you.”
That’s when Raven’s wife, Miranda, stepped in to offer some perspective.
“She can be shady. She can be petty. She can be an a-hole,” Miranda acknowledged, while insisting Raven wasn’t someone who would actively discourage others from befriending someone.
Miranda explained that Raven can appear “very cold and very distant” around people she doesn’t know, but that doesn’t necessarily mean she dislikes them.
By the end of the conversation, Miranda offered to put the perceived tension behind them, extending an invitation for Sidibe to come around, become friends and even go to Pilates together.
And just like that, years of perceived tension ended with a potential workout date.
