Amid a whirlwind year, the 29-year-old model and fashion entrepreneur is opening up about life behind the scenes.
When Jordyn Woods looks back on the New York Knicks’ historic first NBA championship win in 53 years this June—which saw her now-husband, Karl-Anthony Towns, help lead the team to victory and her own “lucky” handbag become such a sensation that it was put on display at New York City’s Guggenheim Museum—what stands out to her most is something else entirely.
“It was the feeling in the city, the community, seeing so many different people come together and what it meant to them,” she told theGrio during a recent interview.
“I don’t really know how to put it into words,” she continued. “But seeing how many different types of people were able to be united and all come together celebrating, and the feeling of people that waited for so many years, or that are maybe older, and this was something that they wanted to see in their lifetime, and the fact that they were able to do that and celebrate and do it with either their kids or their grandchildren or their peers, their neighbors…”
She added, “…it kind of just really brought everyone together, and that was such a beautiful thing to see.”
The championship was just one of several major milestones in what has been an extraordinary year for the 29-year-old model and fashion entrepreneur, who is opening up about how she’s been navigating it all.
Between marrying Towns in a star-studded Malibu ceremony in August, watching her namesake fashion label, Woods by Jordyn, flourish thanks in part to the unexpected success of her viral orange handbag, celebrating the brand’s first New York City pop-up, headline-making home purchases in Hidden Hills, California, and becoming something of a courtside fashion icon, Woods has been booked and busy. Yet, as she settles into married life and another NBA season gets underway, she’s also learning how to make time for herself and prioritize her health and wellness.
“I just try to prioritize doing at least something for myself,” she said.
For the brand founder, that can mean anything from hitting the gym or taking a Pilates class to getting a facial, booking a massage, or finding other ways to care for her physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
Preventive care has also become part of that routine, including staying up to date on her flu shot. Woods recently partnered with Walgreens to encourage others to do the same as flu season gets underway.
“A lot of people don’t know how to stay healthy or take care of themselves,” she noted, explaining that she hopes the partnership will help spread awareness.
With a calendar stacked full of public appearances, basketball games, and business engagements, she’s especially mindful of how frequently she comes into contact with others.
“My schedule has not slowed down, and there is so much exposure to different people living in the city, going to the games, having my pop-up,” she noted. “So it is really important for me to take those initiatives and steps. A lot of people are affected by the flu every single year, and with the holidays coming up, I think none of us want to get sick.”
While encouraging people to make informed decisions about their health, she added, “But you know, the flu shot does help a lot of people.”
As for the holidays, Woods is still figuring out exactly what her plans will look like, although she knows Christmas Day will include another Knicks game. The occasion will also mark one year since Towns proposed on Christmas Eve 2025, giving the newlyweds plenty to celebrate. However, she also acknowledged how often the holiday games fans build whole time-honored traditions around can’t happen without the players and their families sacrificing those holidays together.
“Yeah, it is crazy,” she mused. “But it’s okay. It’s a life that we are living in this moment, and like I keep saying, it’s a blessing to be able to do that.”
That sense of gratitude has become another essential part of Woods’ approach to wellness, especially as she navigates the demands of living so much of her life in the public eye.
Along with keeping her family and closest friends nearby, she said maintaining a positive outlook has helped her stay grounded through even the busiest moments.
“Really, mindset is everything,” she said, explaining that rather than dwelling on exhaustion or everything left on her to-do list, she tries to appreciate simply having another day.
“Being alive is such a beautiful thing,” she added. “And a lot of people may not be in the best health or have the best situation or circumstance. So the fact that I’m able to do that, it’s about just really focusing on the things that matter and being grateful always.”
And when it comes to Woods, there has certainly been plenty to be grateful for on the business front. In addition to launching WOODS Bridal shortly after her own nuptials, Woods by Jordyn, originally launched in 2023, has expanded from a clothing label into an accessories brand. You can find thonged wedged heels with furry cuffs, decadent wrap-around faux-mink jackets, and, of course, her now-iconic sleek handbags and more. Following her first New York pop-up, the entrepreneur is considering what’s next for the growing brand, including new opportunities to connect with customers and bring its community together. The brand presently has a collection with “Love Island US” star Aniya Harvey, for instance.
“The possibilities are endless,” she declared
In the meantime, she’s still mapping out exactly what that next chapter will entail, but the whirlwind success of the past year has taught her a valuable lesson about business and being prepared when opportunity comes knocking.
“It’s just staying ready, so you don’t have to get ready,” she said plainly. “You never know when you might have your viral moment.”
After a year in which she experienced more than a few of her own, Woods is looking ahead with excitement.
“If we could accomplish all of this in one year, then there’s a lot to look forward to,” she said.
