Tarana Burke, founder of the #MeToo movement, was not having it when a DJ played an R. Kelly tune at an industry party she was attending Sunday.
According to PageSix, that’s when insiders say Burke, a huge Kelly detractor and supporter of the #MuteRKelly movement, checked the DJ with the quickness.
“She told the DJ, ‘No R. Kelly!’ and shut it down,” a source shared with PageSix.

Burke, and many others, have drawn the line and are calling for DJs, radio stations and industry execs to distance themselves from the disgusting singer who has been accused—and is being sued—by several women who say that he molested them in their teens.
Burke has been on the frontlines of fighting for radio stations to remove Kelly’s music from rotation. She confronted veteran radio DJ Tom Joyner head-on and asked him to stop playing Kelly’s music and he obliged.
Although many DJs around the world are likely still spinning Kelly’s records, DJ Stormin’ Norman did stop playing the accused singer’s 200 single “Fiesta,” when Burke asked, reports said.
Burke was attending a TV-industry party of entertainment lawyers Nina Shaw and Gordon Bobb at the Harlem restaurant Red Rooster.
Reports said that stars Lupita Nyong’o and Tiffany Haddish were also there. So that means Haddish knows ‘who halted Kelly’s music’ at the party for sure.
Streaming music services are also stepping up to take a stand as well.
Spotify is the latest music giant that announced that they removed all of Kelly’s music from their platforms as part of a new conduct policy that forbids hate content and hateful conduct.
R. Kelly issued a statement saying:
“Spotify has the right to promote whatever music it chooses, and in this case its actions are without merit. It is acting based on false and unproven allegations. It is bowing to social-media fads and picking sides in a fame-seeking dispute over matters that have nothing to do with serving customers,” he said.
