The Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C., has appointed Saisha Grayson as its curator of time-based art. She has been working at the museum since mid-March, and she replaces Michael Mansfield, who left the museum’s film and media arts department to become executive director of the Ogunquit Museum of American Art in Maine last year.

Grayson comes from the Brooklyn Museum’s Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art, where she was assistant curator from 2011 to 2016.

Her first project at SAAM will be a Saya Woolfalk project set to debut in July at the museum’s forthcoming SAAM Arcade event.

In a statement, Grayson said, “Time-based media is a strength for the museum, and a field in which American artists have distinguished themselves over the last 100 years. It is also now an ever-present part of contemporary life, from the screens that surround us, to the digital personas we perform and cultivate. There is an extraordinary opportunity to spur engagement with and reflection on our increasingly immersive media landscape.”
