If you followed Oprah on Instagram on Saturday, you had a seat at the table for a lavish all-day birthday celebration for her BFF. It was (pun intended) a feast fit for a King.
Oprah Winfrey pulled out all the stops for Gayle King’s 65th birthday party, hosting her at her Chicago home and treating her to a lavish dinner with a menu that could pack pounds on you just from reading it.

Winfrey shared the festivities on her Instagram story, and King added her exclamations as well, reported PEOPLE: “When turning 65 feels like 40 something! Thsnx @Oprah for a very special dinner ..my fav color my fav menu and my fav people all in one room ! Here’s to 2020!!!”
King’s birthday made the CBS This Morning anchor and the renowned TV mogul the same age for the next three weeks, until Winfrey’s next birthday on January 29 (they’re one month and one day apart). The two have famously been best friends since their television reporter days in Baltimore in the 1970s.
The theme was yellow, King’s declared favorite color; the décor, King’s dress and the tulips Winfrey flew in from Holland. Winfrey treated her to a manicure before the big dinner; there were no reports on whether a pedi was thrown in as well.

Later, they both celebrated reaching their shared milestone age: “This is what it looks like,’’ they both said in a post next to the table.
Clearly neither are even remotely slowing down, with King’s visibility with CBS News expanding, including a recent exclusive interview with new presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg, and with Winfrey’s TV empire still moving along. “Queen Sugar,’’ executive-produced by Winfrey on her OWN Network, was renewed for a fifth season back in September.
