The bad news is Denzel Washington is reportedly out of a movie project with Michael B. Jordan. The good news is he may be out because he’s in talks to star in another film.

According to Variety magazine, Washington, 64, may soon be playing a police officer in the film Little Things, which is the reason he had to pull out of directing the Jordan-produced film, entitled Journal for Jordan, that tells the true story of Dana Canedy, a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, and her relationship with Sgt. Charles Monroe King, who was killed while serving in Iraq.

While deployed, King would jot down life lessons for his newborn son and the movie appears to be a love letter to his baby boy.

Virgil Williams, who has been nominated for an Oscar in the screenwriter category, wrote the script. Jordan’s Outlier Society production company is producing the script and the actor is set to star in the film.

The Atlanta Black Star reports that Washington was a bit up in the air about the Jordan movie as he was still considering a few other projects as well. Apparently, John Lee Hancock, the script writer for Little Things, was able to convince Washington to take on the role as cop in the movie. The movie is about a veteran cop in Kern County, Calif., who picks up small items during police investigations and uses them to piece together the puzzle of a serial killer.

Jordan, 32, recently wrapped up filming Just Mercy by Warner Bros. He is also set to star in the movie, Without Remorse for Paramount.

Neither Jordan nor Washington has commented on the latest news involving the Journal for Jordan project.

In early March, Jordan and Spike Lee got together to put out “Words Matter” for the luxury accessory brand Coach. The 90-second short is directed by Lee.
