The 2024 NAACP Image Awards nominations are out and 50 Cent is not happy.
The 2024 NAACP Image Awards nominations are out and 50 Cent is upset that Power Book III: Raising Kanan didn’t make the list.
Nominees for the 55th annual awards were announced on Thursday, January 25, with Colman Domingo, Ayo Edebiri, Victoria Monét and Usher taking the lead, Variety reports. Domingo scored three nods for his performances in Rustin and The Color Purple, while Edebiri was nominated twice for supporting and guest roles in The Bear and Abbott Elementary.
On the television side, Quinta Brunson’s Abbott Elementary led with nine nominations while Survival of the Thickest received seven nominations.
Once 50 Cent saw the full list of nominees, he took to social media to sound off. He shared a since-deleted video of his phone conversation with someone who claimed the Power prequel was allegedly excluded due to Starz not having a relationship with the NAACP Image Awards.
“You just said, fundamentally, we have to now insist that Starz improve their relationship with the NAACP,” a man could be heard telling 50 through the speaker.
“We don’t want them to have a relationship with the NAACP, I want to have a relationship with the NAACP,” 50 interjected.
“’Cause I think that they—I don’t know what the fu*k is wrong with them. Like, at this point, you should know that this is the place that you would have to have—how long has Power been the No. 1 show in African American and Latino homes?”
“NAACP didn’t acknowledge RAISING KANAN because of STARZ. 👀WTF THE SHOW IS THE BEST ON TV RIGHT NOW! 🤨98.1,” 50 captioned the since-deleted tweet captured by Complex.
The G-Unit founder followed up his rant on Instagram with a screenshot showing Raising Kanan in the 98.1 percentile rank among drama series.
“These are the fvcking facts RAISING KANAN is the sh*t, I was being nice 🤨nice don’t work ok,” 50 Cent wrote.
