Nearly two years after Kim Porter‘s death, Al B. Sure is opening up about their relationship.

The ’90s R&B singer revealed on Wednesday that he and the late model, who died unexpectedly in November 2018, were briefly married.

“Every time I post something, I forget it’s me,” he said during an interview with Fox Soul. “I’m a grandfather so my concern is not being popular and trying to get numbers and likes. That’s not what I do. But I posted something the other day, talking about my ex-wife—yeah, I said it. My ex-wife! Kimberly.”

He continued, “But nobody knew because we didn’t discuss being married. We didn’t discuss that. Every so often, I give her a tribute.”

He went on to explain that he was getting ready to go to rehearsals for the Soul Train Awards when he heard about Porter’s death. In a video posted to YouTube, Sure can be seen breaking down into tears as he talks about Porter’s passing.

The mother of four died on Nov. 15, 2018, at the age of 48 from lobar pneumonia.

“I moved Kimberly from Columbus, Georgia to New York,” the singer said about his and Porter’s early years together. “That’s when we started searching for her modeling career and things of that nature. …I hate to see the blogs and all that who like take…I don’t answer to nobody. I’m an OG. I’m almost 52 years old. I’m a grandfather. You know the only person I answer to? My grandson now.”

He concluded, “So whatever the case is, I just want the truth to be told.”

Sure’s comments come just a few days after Porter’s former partner, Diddy, shared his own tribute to the late star. The music mogul took to Instagram on Sunday to honor Porter with a sweet message.

“Cherish what you have. Love on them. Kiss on them. Hug on them,” Diddy wrote alongside a photo of the pair kissing. “Spoil them. Listen to them. Because tomorrow is not promised. A message from Love ❤️ Have a beautiful Sunday people.”

Porter shared one older son, Quincy Brown, with Sure and three younger children, Christian “King” Combs, Jessie Combs and D’Lila Combs, with Diddy.
