This week Lionsgate released the trailer for it’s new film Antebellum, a psychological thriller from the production company behind Get Out and Us, which stars singer and actress Janelle Monáe.
According to Shadow and Act, activists Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz of QC Entertainment, are the producers of the provocative new project which in addition to Monáe, also stars Kiersey Clemons, Gabourey Sidibe, Marque Richardson, and Eric Lange.

Just like the other films brought to us by this team, the plot of this film is being kept tightly under wraps, but moviegoers have been able to glean a few details of the premise can from the short clip.
At first glance the movie appears to take place during slavery times, but then we quickly hear the voice of a modern day 911 dispatcher and see a plane flying above the plantation before scenes of Monáe in present day, and in olden times are quickly woven together, blurring the lines of the past and the present.

From the looks of it, the film will likely be a social commentary that in someway touches on the issue of race. The one minute clip keeps things cryptic enough to leave watchers intrigued.
Keeping up with the minimalistic approach, Thursday, the singer dropped the poster art for the film which features a bleeding butterfly and simply tagged the film and noted its premiere date with no further explanation.
Antebellum is set for release on April 24, 2020.
