Cleveland Browns safety Jermaine Whitehead was recently released from the team after unleashing a tirade of violent and racially charged tweets towards critical fans following Sunday’s loss to the Denver Broncos. Now he’s seemingly recognized the error of his ways and has issued an apology.
“I would like to take this opportunity to apologize for my actions following our game with Denver,” Whitehead posted on Instagram the day after he was banned by Twitter and also cut by the Browns.

“That was totally out of character for me,” he continued. “I do not justify my actions, but was extremely frustrated with the way I had played and our team losing because of it. I was playing with a broken hand, but that is no excuse for my actions, and I am deeply regretful.” Whitehead joined the NFL in 2017 and played four seasons. Two with the Green Bay Packers and two with the Browns.
The Daily Mail reports that the ill fated social media rant that lead to such a swift and dramatic backlash took place only 15 minutes after the Browns lost to the Broncos on Sunday. Twitter wasted no time suspending the athlete for his problematic language after he blatantly threatened to “kill” other users, and by Monday morning, the Browns followed suit, announcing they’d parted ways.

Apparently it was something as benign as Browns radio analyst Dustin Fox, writing that his tackling effort was “a joke.”
Instead of ignoring the critique the 26 year old responded, “Come get it in blood b**** made a** lil boy. I’m out there with a broke hand .. don’t get smoked f*** a** cracker.”
He then responded to multiple other tweets, with the same violent, profane, racially charged and homophobic threats, including one tweet where he actually posted the address of the Browns’ facility and invited his naysayers to meet him there to fight “any f***ing day of the week.”
“Jermaine Whitehead’s social media posts following today’s game were totally unacceptable and highly inappropriate,” the Browns acknowledged in a statement Sunday, prior to Monday’s dismissal.
“We immediately spoke with Jermaine upon learning of these comments. The Browns in no way condone that type of language or behavior. This matter will be further addressed internally.”
