District attorney Jackie Lacey is Los Angeles’ top prosecutor. But right now it’s likely she’s focused on a case right in her own home. Her husband, David Lacey, is now facing charges for brandishing a weapon at protesters who gathered outside their home in Granada Hills.

Lacey obviously could not prosecute the case, so California’s district attorney brought the three charges of assault with a firearm, The Los Angeles Times reports.

The charges stem from a March 2nd incident where protesters from the Black Lives Matter Los Angeles turned up at the Lacey home in the pre-dawn hours. When one of them rang the doorbell they were met by David holding a gun and pointing it at them.

When they asked if he was going to shoot them, he said “Yes, I will shoot you. Get off my porch.”

Lacey said her husband responded the way he did because of threats made against her and she apologized on his behalf, the Times reported.

“His response was in fear, and now that he realizes what happened, he wanted me to say to the protesters, the person that he showed the gun to, that he was sorry, that he’s profoundly sorry, that he meant no one any harm,” Lacey said in a press conference later that day.

Lacey was targeted by BLM protesters who’d been trying to meet with her about the Ed Buck case, according to activist Jasmyne Cannick.

Buck, 65, is a Los Angeles businessman and Democratic donor who is accused of contributing to the overdose deaths of two Black men, Timothy Dean and Gemmell Moore. Buck is said to have provided men with drugs in exchange for sex.

It took two years and a third drug overdose at Beck’s Los Angeles home before the Los Angeles DA moved to charge him. Soon after, he was charged in a federal case as well, the NY Times reports.

Protesters also said Lacey, the first Black woman to serve as the head the nation’s largest prosecutor’s office, has been disappointing on other issues related to social justice and is too cozy with law enforcement.

Lacey will run for reelection against former San Francisco DA George Gasćon in November who also used to be a Los Angeles police officer.
