Keeping with Las Vegas’s sheen and glitz, the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art will stage the first solo exhibition of work by Yayoi Kusama in the Nevada city. The show opens November 17 and runs through April 28, 2019.
Aftermath of Obliteration of Eternity (2009), one of the installations in the show, will become the first of Kusama’s “Infinity Mirror Room” works to be shown in Las Vegas. The piece, which was created the year Kusama turned 80, comprises an enclosed, mirrored space affixed with shimmering golden lights.
The second work in the Bellagio show, Narcissus Garden (1966–present), is an arrangement of 1,500 mirrored globes that the artist debuted at the 33rd Venice Biennale without permission from higher-ups at the exhibition. Just 750 of those orbs will be shown at the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art, however, due to spatial limitations. The installation has been shown worldwide, and it was most recently staged by MoMA PS1 this past summer at Fort Tilden in Queens, New York.
Kusama’s work previously figured in a group show at the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art called “Primal Water: An Exhibition of Japanese Contemporary Art,” which closed on October 21.

This is an incredible moment to highlight two groundbreaking installations by acclaimed artist Yayoi Kusama and continue the storytelling nature that art plays in connecting cultures.”
The Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art is located at the Bellagio Resort & Casino, and its collections and exhibitions are managed by MGM Resorts Art & Culture.
