Philadelphia-based artist Wilmer Wilson IV is now co-represented by Susan Inglett Gallery in New York and Connersmith Gallery in Washington, D.C. Wilson will have his first exhibition with Susan Inglett Gallery in January of next year.
Wilson’s work often focuses on the ways contemporary artists depict the black body. The artist was one of the breakout stars of this year’s New Museum Triennial, “Songs for Sabotage,” where he showed a series of tall wood boards featuring prints based on fliers seen around his neighborhood. Each work had a multitude of staples driven into it, so that only parts of the photograph were left visible.
Susan Inglett told ARTnews, “We are thrilled to welcome Wilmer Wilson IV to the Gallery as we continue to grow and develop our program. Wilmer has proven himself to have the maturity and the skills to communicate complex ideas across a variety of visual media. We look forward to championing the work of this important young artist.”
