Earlier this week, powerhouse London gallery White Cube quietly opened an office on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. It is located on the third floor of 699 Madison Avenue, near East 62nd Street, a White Cube director said at its booth at Frieze New York this afternoon.

A Manhattan outpost had been in the works for White Cube for a while, as ARTnews reported two years ago. The new office is open by appointment only.

Started by dealer Jay Jopling in London in 1993 and the first venue for many of that decade’s Young British Artists, such as Damien Hirst, White Cube has been expanding over the past two decades, and now has two locations in London as well as one in Hong Kong.

The Upper East Side continues to be a draw for galleries. David Zwirner opened a branch there last year.
