The Sacramento Police officers who killed Stephon Clark, 22, back in March 2018 will not face charges. Someone called police suspecting vandalism— and the police chased Clark into his grandmother’s backyard and within 23 seconds, fired 20 shots hitting him at least seven times.

His family waited a year for justice and of course, they are devastated. What’s really notale about this case is the district attorney Anne Marie Schubert. In her announcing that officers committed no crime, Schubert revealed personal details about Clark suggesting he was suicidal— and having issues with the mother of his children which led his family to say, why is that necessary? It’s like murdering a dead man’s character— all over again another reason why who you elect as district attorney’s matters.
Jamilla Land, the spokesperson and family friend for the Clark’s says they are working on legislation called AB392, which would prohibit police from using deadly force in situations where non-lethal alternatives could be used instead. This would save lives and protect communities from police violence
