Friday’s men’s semifinals at the US Open earned a 1.2 overnight rating, up 20% from a 1.0 year ago. The telecast’s rating peaked at a 2.0 rating from 8:30-8:45 p.m. ET, during Rafael Nadal’s straight sets victory over Matteo Berrettini.
For the tournament to date, ESPN is averaging a 1.0 overnight rating across ESPN and ESPN2, up 25% from a 0.8 at this point a year ago.
Women’s Championship Today at 4 p.m.: Serena Seeks History, Andreescu Looking to Win in Open Debut
In today’s Women’s Championship: Coverage presented by Mercedes Benz (ESPN, 4 p.m.), Serena Williams will be attempting – for the fourth time – to win a Major final which would secure her 24th Grand Slam title, tying the all-time record currently held by Margaret Court. In her way is 19-year old #15 Bianca Andreescu of Canada who is playing in her first US Open and only her fourth Major overall. She has not lost a completed match since March.
Men’s Championship Sunday at 4 p.m.: Nadal Looks for #19 and Cool off Medvedev’s Hot Summer
Rafael Nadal, the #2 seed, will be gunning for his 19th Major title – just one behind leader Roger Federer – against a red hot #5 Daniil Medvedev (ESPN, 4 p.m.). The US Open Men’s Championship: Coverage presented by Mercedes Benz will be preceded at 3 p.m. by a one-hour US Open Men’s Championship Preview Special presented by Spectrum. The 33-year-old from Spain will be looking to put a chill on the 23-year-old Russian’s hot summer, reaching the final in Washington and Canada and winning Cincinnati.
Women’s Doubles Championship Features Azarenka and Ash Barty
The US Open Women’s Doubles Championship will be aired Sunday, Sept. 8, at 1 p.m. on ESPN. Two-time Major singles winner Victoria Azarenka teams with Ash Barty (who will be the top-ranked singles player as of Monday), and they will face Elise Mertens and Aryna Sabalenka. Barty won last year’s doubles crown at the US Open, partnered with CoCo Vandeweghe.
ESPN & the US Open
ESPN has exclusive live action to the US Open with more than 160 hours on television and 1,300 more streaming live on the ESPN app via ESPN+ and ESPN3. The daily action from the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center will culminate with the Women’s Championship on Saturday, Sept. 7, and the Men’s Championship on Sunday, Sept. 8, both at 4 p.m. ET.
