Phase two of Connecticut’s re-opening is slated for June 20, Gov. Ned Lamont said on Wednesday.

This next phase will allow for several indoor facilities, including gyms, hotels, all personal services, indoor restaurants (though no bars) to reopen, as well as some educational and community services.

Those services include selected youth sports, all summer day camps, K-12 summer schools (which will open July 6) and some graduate programs in July and August.

Undergraduate programs are planning for how they could return in the fall, as are K-12 schools and boarding schools, though final decisions have not been made.

Hair salons are still scheduled to reopen on June 1.

The governor outlined five criteria for the state to meet in order to qualify for phase two:

  • No net increases in hospitalizations in the last week of phase one
  • Increase in testing and tracing capacity including the ability to perform 100,000 tests a week in the state
  • Ensuring protections for the most vulnerable populations
  • No more than 20% of the hospital beds in the state are occupied with Covid-related patients
  • Compliance with additional business and social safeguards which would be detailed in the weeks before phase two

Phase three for the state is “a little further off at this point,” Lamont said, and will be at least four weeks after phase two. It will include bars, indoor event spaces and venues reopening and allowing for big outdoor events for up to 100 people.

By the numbers: The state reported 587 new cases of Covid-19 Wednesday, bringing the total to 39,017 cases.

There were 57 new deaths reported Wednesday, bringing the statewide total to 3,529.
