Last Saturday, I attended artist Brian Tolbert’s opening reception for ULTRABLACK at Station 3510 Gallery in Mount Rainier, MD. It was my first time in the art gallery, and I also met the owner, Jared, and the artist. I was genuinely impressed by the variety in his work, from the materials used to the selection of color. Brian was also very intentional in making his artwork accessible by providing original works and prints from the exhibition available from $125 to $1,500. I follow Brian on Instagram, and leading up to this exhibition, he had a great rollout, including this cool post about the style guide for the opening exhibition, which made me make sure I was following the theme. I had to come correct for this. I can’t recall going to an exhibition with a style guide, but I do love a theme. The exhibition is open until July 26 with an artist talk occurring at the art gallery on the same date. Below, I share a snippet of the exhibition and as well about Station 3510 Gallery which is Black-owned.
