Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray split two of the most anticipated honors of the night at the 28th Annual Home Depot College Football Awards Thursday, as the show shined a spotlight on the stars of college football as the sport ramps up into the postseason.

Tagovailoa claimed the Maxwell Award for college player of the year, as well as the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, while Murray was the second straight Oklahoma quarterback to win the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award. Murray joins Baker Mayfield, Sam Bradford, Jason White (two-time winner) and Billy Sims on the list of Sooners to take home the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award.

On the defensive side, Kentucky linebacker and SEC Defensive Player of the Year Josh Allen nabbed the Chuck Bednarik Award for the college defensive player of the year, while Deandre Baker of Georgia won the Paycom Jim Thorpe Award for the nation’s best defensive back.

Providing a powerful impression on attendees and viewers alike, Purdue super fan Tyler Trent accepted the Disney Spirit Award for not only his unwavering dedication to the Boilermakers, but the unending amount of inspiration he has provided fans of college football in living their lives to the fullest.
