Perhaps sensing some sort of momentum with Black Americans in the wake of Kanye West’s seemingly ubiquitous, rambling, full embrace of Donald Trump, the president’s most obedient Black supporters are allegedly proposing a series of conversations about race.
According to a report by Politico, Trump adviser Pastor Darrell Scott, of Cleveland, one of the president’s most loyal Blacks, has floated the idea of a series of summits on race with Black athletes, entertainers and Trump himself. Scott allegedly senses an opening with the Black community (which has typically polled single-digit approval of the 45th president) after rapper Kanye West tweeted his support of the GOP leader last week.
He wrote: “You don’t have to agree with Trump but the mob can’t make me not love him. We are both dragon energy. He is my brother.”
West’s embrace of Trump, which included the rapper wearing a Make America Great Again hat, has sparked the ire of maybe millions of Black Americans.
West subsequently suggested earlier this week via social media and during an interview on TMZ that “slavery was a choice.” That comment seemed to enrage even more Black Americans and others.
Nevertheless, Scott seems undeterred.
“It’s going to be unscripted, unfiltered, blunt,” Scott said. “No topic is off the table.”
No details or dates for the proposed race talks have been made public by Scott or the Trump White House.
