Washington, DC — The 4th Annual DMV Black Restaurant Week will be held from Sunday, November 7, to Sunday, November 14, 2021. Curated by co-founders, Dr. Erinn Tucker, Furard “Chef Tate” Tate, and Andra “AJ” Johnson, this annual, week-long event promotes the knowledge and awareness of Black-owned food and beverage businesses in the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area.
“After the difficulties of the previous year that have continued through 2021 in our industry, we want to highlight the fact that the black food and beverage businesses we support are still here. They still creating, still serving, and still providing the best hospitality money can and can’t buy,” says Co-Founder and Chef, Furard Tate. “Our region is a melting pot of black culture from all around the world and we are going to celebrate the black makers of food, beverages, and music from the Diaspora that is found right here.”
The theme for 2021 is “Experiencing Our Diversity Through Food, Beverage, and Music.” In 2020, over 90 food and beverage businesses participated and the Education Conference went fully virtual with over 150 participants. And in 2021, the R. R. Bowie Cocktail Competition returns! The competition showcases the best bartenders in the DMV. In addition, the 4th Annual Business of Food and Beverage Education Conference will bring hands-on tools, knowledge, and tips for participants to implement in their work and/or business. All black-owned food and beverage industry business owners and aspiring owners are invited to participate, including hospitality, app creators, food bloggers and writers, chefs, cafes, tea and spice curators, beverage makers, bartenders, food trucks, farmers, caterers – everyone.
