LeBron James as U.S. Secretary of Education?
Fans of the basketball star signed a petition wanting him to replace current U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos following James opening his I Promise School in Akron, Ohio for 240 at-risk students, according to HuffPost.
“LeBron James is an inspiration to kids all over the country,” reads the petition. “He’s shown he cares about America’s youth and understands the power of public education in helping children meet their true potential.”
The petition has over 31,000 signatures.
James, who will be playing for the Los Angeles Lakers in the fall, made waves last month when he revealed his new public school, which offers free tuition for the third and fourth graders.
According to an Instagram post by James, his I Promise School also offers: free uniforms, free bicycles and helmets, free transportation within two miles, free meals, food pantries for families, GED job placement services for parents and guaranteed tuition to the University of Akron for every student who graduates.
If the petition reaches its goals, chances are the White House won’t replace DeVos with James, since President Donald Trump isn’t a fan of the NBA star.
