Thomas Bompard, a veteran of Sotheby’s since 2001, has been named the new chairman of Sotheby’s West Coast and a senior specialist in the auction house’s Fine Art division. Previously a specialist in Impressionist & Modern Art, Bompard will move from London to Los Angeles for his new role.

“There is so much opportunity for Sotheby’s up and down the West Coast and I couldn’t imagine a more exciting move for me personally,” Bompard said in a statement. “California is today, more than ever, the promise land of entrepreneurs with a unique life style – a natural paradise for art lovers and collectors.”

Bompard started his career at Sotheby’s in the Books & Manuscripts department in Paris. In 2008, he moved into Impressionist & Modern Art, where he has held several positions as a department head and senior international specialist. He also worked for a year as an independent dealer. Most recently, Bompard managed Sotheby’s London evening sales.
