Tanya Weddemire Gallery is a Brooklyn-based, Black woman-owned contemporary art gallery established in 2022 and located in Industry City, Brooklyn. Founded by Tanya Weddemire, who brings over 25 years of experience in the luxury and creative industries. Four years after its debut, the gallery remains committed to presenting the work of compelling emerging and mid-career artists such as Moses Salihou, O’Neil Scott, Candice Tavares, and others whose practices examine identity, heritage, and contemporary narratives. The gallery is community-rooted, prioritizing the collector and artist experience at every touchpoint.
Last December, during my trip to Miami Art Week, I had the honor of meeting several artists and gallery owners, including Tanya Weddemire at the Scope Art Show. Our brief chat was a moment to appreciate the work done so far and what’s still to come.
With a busy fall schedule ahead—including The Armory Show this month and the Atlanta Art Fair in October—I’m honored to have the opportunity to speak with Tanya Weddemire and share it with you. We dive into her career journey, how she built her gallery’s mission, art market predictions for the rest of the year, along with practical tips for emerging artists and collectors. If you are in New York this month, stop by Tanya Weddemire Gallery to see Moses Salihou’s newest exhibition, Without Boundaries. Lastly, the gallery has a few works available for purchase from the BUYART: WITHIN REACH exhibition. I hope you enjoy the conversation, and as always, please like and comment!
