After the three-day airing of the Lifetime’s Surviving R. Kelly docuseries, several people have spoken out against R. Kelly including R&B stars Tank, Ne-Yo and Omarion.
The six-part documentary, which was produced by cultural critic and activist dream hampton, shed light on the singer’s alleged predatory behavior and sexual misconduct/abuse.
Although Kelly has denied any wrongdoing, the more than 50 interviews including his brothers, former employees, alleged victims and their parents have many people joining the #MuteRKelly campaign.
“It’s so dark and sad and traumatic. I wish that [R. Kelly] would have gotten help… Maybe he could’ve gotten help when he was 30, or you know, 29 when the Aaliyah stuff broke.” – dream hampton
In an interview with SiriusXM’s Karen Hunter, hampton shared some discoveries she made during the process of making the in-depth series.
Since the series premiered, Color Of Change, the nation’s largest online racial justice organization, has called for action for the “I Believe I Can Fly” singer to be dropped by RCA Records. In addition, calls to the sex-abuse hotline increased by 27 percent.
