The Ludwig Museum of Contemporary Art in Budapest has announced that Tamás Waliczky will represent Hungary at the 2019 Venice Biennale, the Budapest Times reports. His Hungarian Pavilion, titled “Cameras – Imaginary Cameras and Other Optical Devices,” will be curated by Zsuzsanna Szegedy-Maszák for the exhibition opening next May.
Waliczky’s project will focus on the many roles that cameras play in daily life. “Digitally designed analogue machines” will feature, as will lightbox works, animations, and an interactive element, according to the Budapest Times.
Past artists to have represented Hungary at the Venice Biennale include Gyula Varnai (2017), Szilárd Cseke (2015), Zsolt Asztalos (2013), and Hajnal Németh (2011).
