New England Patriots safety Duron Harmon won’t join his team at the White House this year, following the NFL team’s Super Bowl win against the Los Angeles Rams.
Harmon, 28, told TMZ on Sunday following the game, which was the lowest scoring Super Bowl in history. “Nah, man. They don’t want me in the White House,” he said.
“I probably won’t go. I’m not going. I did not go last time. We all know why,” Harmon told Sports Illustrated. “I just feel like, for what he believes and what he says, it doesn’t sit well with me, so there’s no point in going there. It would be fake to shake his hand.”
Each year Super Bowl champions are often invited to the White House and get to celebrate their victory with the president. In 2018, President Donald Trump disinvited the Philadelphia Eagles after they won last year’s championship, following reports that many of the team’s players and coaches would not visit the White House over the president’s comments on players kneeling during the national anthem to protest racism, according to HuffPost.
