Southampton Arts Center on the East End of Long Island in New York has named Tom Dunn as the center’s first-ever executive director. Dunn previously worked at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, as part of a senior management team that presided over a $1.2 billion redevelopment of Lincoln Center’s 16-acre campus. Most recently, he was Lincoln Center’s senior director of concert hall operations.
At the Southampton Arts Center, Dunn will play a role in managing the restoration and expansion of the center’s building and grounds. In an interview, he said the center is approximately 12-18 months away from launching a significant capital campaign to raise support for preservation and modernization. Among his other duties will be strategic planning, programming, community and audience engagement, and development.
In a statement announcing his appointment, Dunn described the Southampton Arts Center as “a place for the entire community—year-rounders and summer residents of all backgrounds—to come together to experience free and affordable world-class art and cultural offerings.”
In 2017, the center drew 40,000 visitors, showed six exhibitions (including a portraiture show called “About Face” and another focusing on photography by Michael Halsband), and produced more than 200 events ranging from drawing workshops to jazz nights.
