Shannen Doherty‘s attorney is dismayed by State Farm Insurance’s claim that the actress is using her terminal cancer diagnosis as a way to garner “sympathy” in her lawsuit against the company.
The “90210” actress’ attorney, Devin McRae, told Fox News he finds the insurance company’s most recent argument “quite appalling.”
“It’s in line with the continuing contempt, hostility, and lack of respect it’s had for Ms. Doherty since the beginning of this claim,” McRae told Fox News.

McRae disputed several claims made by State Farm in their Wednesday court filing. The insurance company accused Doherty on Wednesday of planning to “garner sympathy by her contention that State Farm must rebuild her entire house” when the case heads to trial, Page Six reported.
McRae shot down State Farm’s claim that it already shelled out $1 million to pay for a temporary home for the actress in addition to covering costs of remediation and professional cleaning. The attorney told Fox News an “overwhelming majority” of that money has gone toward additional living expenses.
McRae added that the amount State Farm has paid for repairs to the home is “18 times under” estimates determined by consultants.
The actress’ attorney stressed that the insurance giant continues to refuse to get rid of smoke contamination in Doherty’s home, which is putting her declining health in greater jeopardy.
“In making all of these decisions, they have purposely failed to consider her health condition,” McRae said, adding that “particularly cancer and a chronic respiratory ailment is directly relevant to determining the scope and means of smoke remediation.”
The 48-year-old actress initially sued State Farm in March 2019 after it refused to pay for the full amount of repairs to her California home that had been damaged in the Woolsey fire.
In its court filing on Wednesday, State Farm argued: “Plaintiff improperly claims she is entitled to have her entire home rebuilt at a cost of $2.7 million because she has breast cancer and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.”

Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. She initially underwent hormone therapy before undergoing a mastectomy, following by back-to-back rounds of chemotherapy and radiation, People previously reported. In 2018, she underwent reconstruction with an innovative surgery called DIEP flap, in which the breast is rebuilt using the patient’s own tissue.
Since her initial diagnosis, the “Charmed” actress returned to work on the “90210” reboot in 2019.
