A Georgia chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority is under scrutiny for allegedly being part of a sex ring.
At the Alpha Beta AKA Chapter at Fort Valley State University in Fort Valley, Georgia 21 women crossed the line in March, but by April, reports developed that some of the new members “were involved in a sex rings so they could allegedly pay to ‘pledge’ the oldest Black Greek sorority,” according to a Rolling Out article.
The clients were allegedly businessmen and politicians.
Because of the severity of the claims, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), University Systems of Georgia and the sorority’s national office are investigating allegations that the young women were being pimped in order to pay the dues to pledge.
“Right now, it’s all allegation. Nothing has been substantiated by us. We’ve made no arrests,” said GBI Agent J.T. Ricketson.
The AKA national office told Atlanta’s 11 Alive that they have a, “zero tolerance policy for hazing, member sexual misconduct, and harassment, and we take any allegations of this nature very seriously.”
In the middle of the sex ring allegation is a former university employee and graduate adviser to Alpha Beta, Alecia Johnson.
Johnson resigned on April 18, the same day AKA’s national office said they had joined the investigation into the allegations of sexual misconduct.
“I find it best under the circumstances to render my resignation effective immediately,” she wrote.
Johnson’s lawyer, Adrian Patrick, claims that the accusations are ridiculous.
“I just think that’s incredulous,” he said. “I mean, I know people want to be in a sorority. I got that part. I just don’t think you’re going to sell your body. Plus, it’s inconsistent with the reputation of Alpha Kappa Alpha,” Patrick said.
He said that his client is completely innocent and was solely serving in her duty as graduate advisor.
“She’s not a pimp, and she’s not a madam. None of that,” Patrick told Atlanta’s Channel 2. “She’s not guilty. She did not do anything,” Patrick said.
