After decreases in violent crime earlier in 2018, gun violence has seemed to increase in recent months and this past weekend was one of the deadliest of the year so far.

According to a report in the Baltimore Sun, seven people were killed and four others injured in nine shootings over the weekend. There have been at least 17 people killed in the last week of September according to the Sun.

On Sept. 29, at approximately 7:39 p.m., Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 2500 block of E. Biddle St. in East Baltimore. They discovered  a 35-year-old man with a gunshot to the upper body who was pronounced dead at the scene. About 10 minutes later, BPD officers found a 46-year-old man in the 3300 block of W. Baltimore Street suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper body. He was transported to an area hospital. The victim, identified as Donald Lee Jackson, died from his injuries Sept. 30.

Shortly after 10 p.m., on Sept. 29, police discovered a 44-year-old man who had been shot in the upper body in the 5500 block of Sinclair Lane, in east Baltimore. He was transported to an area hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

On Sept. 30, just after midnight, police responded to reports of a shooting in the 2800 block of W. Belvedere Ave., where police discovered a 27-year-old man identified as Thomas Hamilton with gunshots to the body. He was taken to an area hospital where he later died of his wounds.

At approximately 2:19 a.m., police responded to the unit block of Calvert St. for reports of shots fired. That is where they found 24-year-old Abdoulie Jallow suffering from gunshot wounds to the body. He was transported to an area hospital where he later died.

At approximately 11:35 a.m., BPD officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 400 block of Balfern Ave., in east Baltimore, where they found a 32-year-old man later identified as Randall Finney with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He later died at an area hospital.

Later that evening, at around 6:40 p.m., police on patrol heard gunshots and reported to the 1500 block of Rosedale St. in west Baltimore, where they discovered an adult male shooting victim. He was transported to an area hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

As of Oct.1, there have been 227 reported homicides in Baltimore.
