Holland Cotter writes of artist Kent Monkman’s monumental paintings on view in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Great Hall: “The most radical aspect of his work in the context of the Met—an ‘encyclopedic’ museum thoroughly Western in attitude—is that it presents a view of art history through the eyes of the Other, in this case Native Americans and people of Canada’s First Nations.” [The New York Times]

Philip Kennicott calls the Hans Haacke retrospective at the New Museum in New York “an exhilarating tribute to the artist’s consistency of vision, his integrity and ideals and his resistance to the trivial, distracting and dissipating forces of the contemporary art world.” [The Washington Post]

Performance

On the occasion of the opening of her exhibition at the Red Brick Museum in Beijing, artist Sarah Lucas performed the work One Thousand Eggs: For Women, in which the artist and other participants throw eggs against a wall. The institution’s founder director, Yan Shijie, also joined in.
