The San Jose Museum of Art in California has tapped Holly Shen to be its new deputy director. Shen, who comes from a position overseeing visual arts activity at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, will join November 1.

Before her time with the BAM, Shen founded the coalition-building initiative Forward Union. She also has been on the faculty of the Fashion Institute of Technology and the State University of New York.

“I am thrilled to join the San Jose Museum of Art during an exciting time of growth for the museum and the city of San Jose,” Shen said in a statement. “I look forward to supporting SJMA’s compelling exhibitions program and advancing a number of initiatives that look to expand and share the museum’s resources with a wide audience.”
