The Los Angeles–based artist Ruby Neri will now be represented on America’s East Coast by Salon 94 gallery in New York. The gallery will present work by Neri alongside pieces by the late sculptor Betty Woodman at its booth next month at Art Basel Miami Beach. L.A.’s David Kordansky Gallery will continue to represent the artist on the West Coast.
Neri, who was trained as a painter, creates large-scale ceramic sculptures that often feature sexualized female figures, their bodies often featuring exaggerated body parts—pointed nipples and full bosoms, in many cases—and their faces often adorned with makeup.
Earlier this year, Neri’s work was the subject of a two-person show with Alicia McCarthy at the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive in California. In 2012, she was included in the Hammer Museum’s Made in L.A. biennial.
“Ruby’s T&A—as front and back—require our full-frontal engagement,” Salon 94 founder Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn said in a statement. “I love walking around her empowered female figures and embrace her pride.”
