The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation in New York has made three new additions to its board: collector A.C. Hudgins, art historian Kellie Jones, and Museum of Modern Art director Glenn Lowry.
Hudgins is known for collecting work by a variety of black artists, including David Hammons, Henry Taylor, and Senga Nengudi. He is currently a trustee of MoMA, and has been a vocal advocate for diversifying boards at art institutions.
Jones is a professor at Columbia University’s art history and archaeology department and its Institute for Research in African American Studies. In 2017, she published South of Pico: African American Artists in Los Angeles in the 1960s and 1970s (2017). In 2016 she was named a MacArthur “Genius” fellow.
Lowry has been the director of MoMA for almost 25 years and recently signed on to lead the museum through 2025. In 2004 Lowry was named an Officier dans L’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government.
In a statement, Kathy Halbreich, the foundation’s executive director, who previously worked with Lowry at MoMA, said, “Kellie, Glenn, and A. C. are intimately involved with the creative lives of artists across the globe and firm believers that the foundation’s artistic and philanthropic programs must reflect Rauschenberg’s own fearlessly experimental and collaborative approach to living and working.”
