Rebecca Rabinow, the director of the Menil Collection in Houston, has been named to the board of directors of the Richard Diebenkorn Foundation in Berkeley, California.
Prior to becoming director of the Menil, in 2016, Rabinow was a curator of modern art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. In her new position, she has overseen a $121 million fundraising campaign and renovation of the museum’s Renzo Piano–designed main building, as well as the planning for the museum’s Menil Drawing Institute, which is set to open next month following a delay.
In a statement, Steven A. Nash, the president of the Richard Diebenkorn Foundation, said that Rabinow’s knowledge of modern art would help inform the work done to further the painter’s legacy. “An authority on the work of Henri Matisse, Rebecca has long been aware that the master artist was a lodestar for Richard Diebenkorn, holding for him the spark of modernity and lessons of pure painting,” he said.
