Rebecca Black was just 13 when “Friday” went viral for all the wrong reasons.
The 2011 song’s autotuned lyrics and cheesy video clip was savaged online, with Black placed under police protection after receiving multiple death threats.
But soon, like all viral stars, Black faded back into obscurity and is now trying to stage a comeback.
Black, now 20, competed on US singing show “The Four: Battle for Stardom,” admitting her spot on the show felt like a shot at redemption after the negative reception to Friday.
Her parents paid $2705 to a company to have Black record the song, using her family home as the set and friends as extras for the music video.
Black said filming the music video was “such a cool experience” but she never expected it to make her a household name.
“I was like this was fun, this was something creative for me to do over Christmas break,” she told “The Four: Battle for Stardom.”
“After it went on the internet, it literally blew up in the blink of an eye … the hate and comments were everywhere. No one can prep you for that kind of thing.”
Fighting back tears, Black said receiving death threats nearly forced her to stop pursuing music.
“There is something so brutal when you’re 13 and you’ve got people telling you don’t belong here,” she said.
“There was definitely a moment when I got really close to giving up on my music but, like, you should never let anyone tell you that what you love to do is wrong.”
Despite wowing the judges with her rendition of NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye,” Black was knocked out in the next round after going up against contestant James Graham.
But Black isn’t letting the setback get her down and later took to Twitter to thank people for their support.
