Ahmir Khalib Thompson aka Questlove (stylized as ?uestlove ) performs with The Roots at BottleRock in Napa, California. The Roots are a Grammy Award winning hip hop group.

The Roots’ drummer Questlove put together a soundtrack to accompany Michelle Obama’s memoir, Becoming.

The Michelle Obama Musiaqualogy is a three-volume playlist with music spanning more than four decades and artists including Ella Fitzgerald, Sam Cooke, George Benson, Michael Jackson, D’Angelo, Erykah Badu and Jill Scott.

“Like a lot of people, I connect many of my memories with the songs and melodies I was listening to at the time,” Obama said in a statement toBillboard. “From the jazz and Stevie Wonder of my childhood, to Price and Earth, Wind & Fire as I came into my own as an adult, to Beyoncé, Janelle Monáe, and so many others who provided the stirring backbeats of my time in the White House — music has always been a defining part of who I’ve become.”

The former first lady continued, “That’s why I’m so thankful to Questlove for curating these playlists and infusing them with his signature style. Life’s a little better when we live it to Questlove’s beat.”

Volume one contains music from 1964- 1979 and volume two spans from 1980- 1997, these two playlists are meant to be played in chronological orders according to the music publication. Volume three, which covers 1997- 2018 was curated for shuffle mode.

The soundtrack is being played live in venues across 10 cities on the Becoming book tour, which kicked off in Chicago on Nov. 13 and will end in Brooklyn, New York on Dec. 19. In addition, The Michelle Obama Musiaqualogy can be streamed on Spotify or Pandora’s Questlove station.

According to USA Today, the memoir published by Crown Publishing sold more than 1.4 million copies in the U.S. and Canada its first week. Becoming also had one of the year’s biggest debuts with more than 725,000 books sold on its release day.

Obama is also scheduled to make a special appearance on the drummer’s podcast, Questlove Supreme, soon.

The former first lady is the cover star of EBONY’s 2018 Power Issue, where she discussed the book and her post-White House life. Check out Inside EBONY for more on the cover story.
