Phillips is slated to sell works in London and New York from the collection of Howard Karshan, the late lawyer who served on the Turner Prize Committee and, alongside his wife Linda, accrued a large collection of 20th century art, including works by Cy Twombly, Pablo Picasso, and Alberto Giacometti, among many others.
Highlights of the more than 150 works from Karshan’s collection will lead Phillips’ evening sale of 20th century and contemporary art in London this October, including a piece by Gerhard Richter, titled Hände, estimated at £2 million-£3 million ($2.6 million-$3.8 million), and a Cy Twombly piece, Sperlonga Drawing, estimated at £350,000-£550,000 ($449,000-$706,000). Additional lots will follow in day sales in London and later, in November, in New York, as well as the spring auctions next year.
