Performa Appoints Kathy Noble as Curator and Manager of Curatorial Affairs -ARTnews

Kathy Noble has joined the New York-based performance art nonprofit Performa as curator and manager of curatorial affairs. In the newly created role, she will oversee all of Performa’s curatorial activities, including its year-round programming, books, and its city-spanning biennial, the next edition of which is scheduled for 2019. “Kathy will be somebody who looks at the total picture with me,” Performa founder and chief curator RoseLee Goldberg told ARTnews.

Previously, Noble worked as an interdisciplinary curator at Tate Modern in London, where she organized performance art programming including the “Tate Modern Live” series and “Art in Action” commissions in the museum’s Tanks. She has also worked at the Nottingham Contemporary and Wysing Arts Centre in Cambridge, England, in addition to launching the ICA London’s inaugural “Art Night” festival, which commissioned site-specific works from the likes of Laure Prouvost, Joan Jonas and Jason Moran, and Xu Zhen/MadeIn Company. She has also written for publications including Artforum and Mousse.

“Performa has provided me with me with some of the most profound and enjoyable artistic experiences of my life to date,” Noble told ARTnews. “Performa’s way of working with artists, and with New York, is entirely unique, and I’m excited to develop new work that connects with the city’s communities.”

Of Performa’s program overall, Goldberg said the organization looks to “put memories in different parts of the city” as a way to “counter some of the ways that the city is being homogenized.”
