Pace Gallery has expanded its representation of Mary Corse to New York, beginning with an exhibition of her work in the city in 2020. The gallery previously represented Corse in Asia, and has planned a show with the artist at its Hong Kong space for March 2019, to coincide with Art Basel Hong Kong. Lehmann Maupin, which previously represented Corse in New York, will no longer work with the artist, who will continue to also be represented by Kayne Griffin Corcoran in Los Angeles and Lisson Gallery in London.
Corse, who had a survey show at the Whitney Museum in New York earlier this year, is a Berkeley, California–born artist best known for her work reliant upon lighting effects and glass boxes. At Art Basel Miami Beach this week, a trademark “light box” piece by Corse will be featured in Pace’s booth in a mini-exhibition titled “Lightness of Being,” which highlights work by artists related to the Light and Space movement.
Marc Glimcher, the president and CEO of Pace Gallery, said in a statement, “The power and vivacity of her paintings are unmatched, and we’re thrilled to now have the opportunity to not only showcase her work in Asia, but to share it with our audience in our hometown of New York as well. Of course, New Yorkers have had the privilege to see Mary’s work at the Whitney and at Dia:Beacon, and we’re looking forward to building upon that foundation at Pace in New York.”
