P.P.O.W. has added Elijah Burgher to its artists roster. The Berlin-based painter’s work will be featured at the gallery’s booth in the 2018 edition of Frieze London; he will also mount a solo exhibition at the New York gallery in January 2019.
“[Burgher is] a really good match with our program, because his work deals with issues around identity and queer issues that of course relate to David [Wojnarowicz], Carlos Motta, and several other artists” who are represented by P.P.O.W., Wendy Olsoff, the gallery’s cofounder, told ARTnews in a phone conversation. Olsoff added that Burgher’s themes—his interest in the occult and magic, in particular—are also shared by those of other gallery artists, including Carolee Schneemann and Adam Putnam.
Prior to his show with P.P.O.W, Burgher will be part of a three-person show this October at the Drawing Center in New York, where his work will appear alongside pieces by Toyin Ojih Odutola and Nathaniel Mary Quinn.
