Let us free! Walmart aims to erase check out lines and ease shopper stress this holiday season. The retailer is launching Check Out With Me, its new service designed to help the flow of traffic in the stores and to add to the customer shopping experience.
The system will consist of Bluetooth printers for receipts as well as mobile devices for scanning. The program was tested at over 350 Walmart locations and started as a pilot program, specifically for lawn and garden consumers. However, after receiving positive feedback, the service will be rolled out nationwide.
To make matters even more convenient, the staff will scan large items without removing them from the shelves allowing the customers to literally check out versus having to wait for the checkout process to be complete before getting them into their vehicles.
In addition to this, Walmart has expanded their website, making it feel more like an eCommerce platform adding 2,000 brands to the site since last year. They are also offering two-day shipping on more items.
Perhaps not coincidentally, these new additions call to mind Amazon Prime. Jeff Bezos seems to be setting retail standards.
Walmart is also making returns simpler than ever. All a customer has to do is log in to his or her Walmart account, print out a return label, and ship back to the seller. This experience is beginning to roll out now and you can also return eligible marketplace items in-store, as well.
As stated in a recent press release: with 90% of Americans living within 10 miles of a Walmart store, the retail giant is banking on these new services, starting mid-November, to retain customer loyalty
