Darius Leonard, a linebacker on the Indianapolis Colts, helped his high school biology teacher, Martha Isbell, when her tired popped in Lake View, South Carolina, on Sunday.
“Darius Leonard continues to be an outstanding player on and off the field,” Isbell shared a video of the 23-year-old NFL star changing her tire. “So thankful to God that he stopped and helped me. Much love!”
According to the Indy Star, the teacher was tough on Leonard for being a class clown but was always fond of his character.
“I was glad to see him because
I knew I was safe with him there,” Isbell told the online publication. “He
knew it was me. If I had been a complete stranger, he still would have done it
anyway. He cares enough to help anyone.”
She was extremely appreciative
of the rescue because her father, who is currently battling stage 4 cancer, was
on his way to help her change out the tire.
With Leonard’s help putting on the spare tire, Isbell was able to make it to Easter Mass.
The linebacker was the second pick in the 2018 NFL draft and went on to have a great rookie season, which included 163 tackles.
“Darius
does a lot for us. We’re proud of him,” she said. “You never
know what your students are going to be as an educator. You just know you’ve
got to give them all that you’ve got.”
