The National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) celebrates Black cinema with its first-ever Smithsonian African American Film Festival. The institution announced the festival, which takes place October 24-27, with a trailer yesterday (August 24).
An announcement notes that the festival will feature screenings of contemporary works and films from the museum’s archives. The event’s website lists a couple of these films, including “Four Women,” “Sankofa,” “Boom for Real” and “Take This Hammer.”
Now, a new generation of readers can decide for themselves. Members of the late writer’s family joined forces with scholars to produce a reprint of “Little Man, Little Man.” This edition, which Duke University Press released today (August 24), also features words from the people who resurrected it: a foreword by Baldwin’s nephew Tejan Karefa-Smart (the inspiration for TJ), an afterword by niece Aisha Karefa-Smart and a joint introduction by scholars Jennifer DeVere Brody and Nicholas T. Boggs.
