The Queens Museum in New York has hired Sally Tallant, the director of the Liverpool Biennial in England, as its new director, the New York Times reports.

Tallant will take the place of the politically engaged Laura Raicovich, who departed the museum in February amid tensions with its board.

Before joining the Liverpool Biennial in 2011, Tallant had been head of programs at the Serpentine Galleries in London since 2001. She is currently vice president of the International Biennial Association.

In the Times today, Tallant said, “Amid the difficulties and stress points we see in the world today, institutions like the Queens Museum are key in terms of creating cultural spaces for people to engage with the urgent issues of our time.”
