Netflix brought Hollywood to Houston for the highly anticipated premiere of “Mo” Season 2, celebrating the critically acclaimed series with an intimate gathering of cast, creatives, and special guests. Check out a gallery from the star-studded event inside.
The Season 2 premiere of “Mo” was hosted in partnership with the Houston Film Commission. The evening was a star-studded tribute to the city that serves as the show’s backdrop.
The festivities kicked off with an exclusive dinner attended by series creator and star Mo Amer, along with cast members Farah Bsieso and Cherien Dabis. Among the notable guests were comedy legend Dave Chappelle, Houston rap icon Bun B, rapper Maxo Kream, NFL star Adrian Peterson, and DJ Chase B, adding a Texas-sized dose of star power to the celebration.
Following the dinner, guests made their way to The River Oaks Theatre for a special screening of “Mo” Season 2. The evening concluded with an insightful conversation featuring the cast, moderated by cultural critic Taylor Crumpton, and a surprise guest appearance. The event was a full-circle moment for Mo, a show deeply rooted in Houston’s vibrant culture and diverse communities.
In a special nod to the city’s support, The River Oaks Theatre will host a Mo Community Day today (Jan. 29), offering free screenings of the first two episodes to Houston locals. The initiative, backed by Netflix and the Houston Film Commission, makes sure fans can experience the highly anticipated new season before its official release on Jan. 30.
Season 2 of “Mo” picks up with Mo Najjar (played by Amer) stranded across the border, desperate to return home before his family’s asylum hearing. As a Palestinian refugee without a passport, Mo must rely on his street smarts, charm, and relentless hustle to navigate an impossible situation. But the real trouble starts when he returns to Houston, only to find his longtime love Maria slipping away and a new rival threatening his dream of one day returning to Palestine.
Executive produced by Amer and Ramy Youssef (Ramy, Poor Things), the award-winning series is lauded for its sharp humor, emotional depth, and timely storytelling. Produced by A24, “Mo” continues to break barriers in representation, bringing an authentic and unfiltered perspective on the immigrant experience.
With its Houston premiere setting the stage for another unforgettable season, “Mo” Season 2 is ready to take audiences on a heartfelt, hilarious, and gripping ride. Be sure to stream exclusively on Netflix starting Jan. 30.
