Netflix announced on Thursday morning that it is releasing a new documentary film about the comedic legend and actor Eddie Murphy.
Eddie is coming in 2025, and in it, Murphy will look back on his long, exceptional career that began with him as a teen comic on the rise during his time at Saturday Night Live, a standup comedian, and a box office superstar.
The documentary, directed by two-time award-winning editor Angus Wall, will highlight his evolution as a trailblazer and record-breaking success from growing up on the streets of Brooklyn to Hollywood.
The documentary’s producers are John Davis, John Fox, Charisse Hewitt, Terry Leonard, and Kent Kubena.
In the film, the Oscar-nominated actor opens up his home and dives deep into his eclectic, nearly 50-year career. In his own words, he talks about entertaining three generations of fans with a filmography that spans comedy, action, drama, animation, musicals, and family fare. Friends, co-stars, directors, and fellow comics offer insight into Murphy’s singular life and career and the influence that it has had with breakthrough standup films like Raw, ’80s megahits Beverly Hills Cop, Coming to America, and Trading Places through ’90s classics like The Nutty Professor, the Shrek franchise in the 2000s to his Oscar-nominated performance in Dreamgirls.
After a long hiatus, Murphy has resumed his Hollywood career. Most recently, he starred in Netflix’s Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, reprising his role as the iconic character from the Beverly Hills Cop movie franchise, Axel Foley.
Murphy also starred in Prime Video’s Coming 2 Ameria, Candy Cane Lane, and the Netflix comedy You People. The 63-year-old actor will star in Amazon MGM’s upcoming heist pic The Pickup and a Pick Panther movie.
He is also reprising his role as Donkey in the upcoming animated feature Shrek 5.
