A year and a half into the Trump’s presidency, the National Endowment of the Arts is still in operation, despite repeated calls for cuts to its budget.
A list of NEA grants for the 2018 fiscal year were released today. In total, some $80.5 million in grants will be warded to 1,071 arts institutions across the U.S. The largest recipient of NEA funding, Art Works II was granted over $23 million for projects that span a residency program for Native American artists in Oregon to theatre grants in Rhode Island. Other notable grantees include the Armory Center, Brooklyn Museum, and the Whitney Museum.
In a statement, the NEA’s chairman, Jane Chu, said, “The variety and quality of these projects speaks to the wealth of creativity and diversity in our country. From Atlanta, Georgia to Sparks, Nevada, NEA funding reaches thousands of communities, assisting local organizations and providing access to the arts to all.”
