Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog-Eating Contest will air live on Thursday, July 4, at noon ET on ESPN2. The one-hour telecast marks the 16th consecutive year ESPN has televised the event. Prior to the main event, the Women’s Championship will begin at 10:45 a.m. ET on ESPN3 and streaming live on the ESPN app.
ESPN commentator Adam Amin will do play-by-play of the eating competition and the show will include in-depth analysis by Major League Eating’s Richard Shea, with reporting by Melanie Collins. George Shea, MLE chairman, will host the stage show for the historic contest, which has been held in Coney Island, NY, for decades and attracts top eating talent from around the world. In addition to the live event on ESPN2, an ESPN3 camera will be focused on Joey Chestnut as he attempts to break his world record of 74 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes.
In addition to the focus on Chestnut’s potential record-breaking feat, coverage will also feature newcomers Geoff Esper and Darron Breeden. Both competitive eaters qualified with 47 hot dogs and buns and are fast-rising stars in the sport.
Encore presentations of Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog-Eating Contest will air later that day on ESPN2 at 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. ET as well as on ESPNEWS at 7 p.m. ET. And, for those who want an extra serving of hot dogs, ESPNEWS will also air the last six contests – from 2013 to 2018 – starting at midnight ET on July 3 and running through 6 am ET on July 4.
